The focus of my practice is to help individuals, couples, and parents and their children, to bring out the best in themselves and each other. If you are looking for a private place to safely discuss concerns that you are having, you will likely feel comfortable and find your time productive in my office. Individuals, Couples, and Families are assessed and treated with kindness, respect, and warm professionalism at The Cottage Clinic.

Services I provide:

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) is a short-term (approximately 8-20 sessions) structured approach that was originally developed in the 1980s by Dr. Sue Johnson and Dr. Leslie Greenberg. EFT is an evidence based, humanistic treatment that arose out of attachment theory.  Some call EFT, the "new science of love" because it identifies a clear and attainable process and methodology for creating and maintaining healthy, secure, romantic bonds. It has been found that 70-75% of couples who go through EFT move from distress to recovery with about 90% demonstrating significant and lasting overall improvement.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy or a Hold Me Tight Couples Workshop is one of my most special and treasured experiences in life as I watch couples transform and deepen their relationship.

Cardiac Psychology

Cardiac psychology is a specialization of health psychology that focuses on the primary and secondary prevention of heart disease by incorporating strategies to address the emotional and behavioral barriers to lifestyle changes (e.g. smoking cessation). This therapy seeks to enhance recovery in cardiac patients by means of providing patient's some tools (e.g. stress management and psychotherapy) to cope with life and physical changes associated with their disease.

Cardiac psychologists can help cardiac patients across the lifespan: prevention, pre-surgery, post-surgery, and rehabilitation of cardiac disease with a particular emphasis on achieving optimal quality of life outcomes. We help cardiac patients cope with life-changing diagnoses, devices, or other events that may cause feelings of emotional discomfort.  Our goal is to help you adjust to your situation and to improve your quality of life.

We know that when people feel isolated and alienated from their community, loved ones, or partner in life, their health tends to suffer.  Having a secure, loving bond with your partner can help restore your health.  Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy can sometimes help couples suffering from cardiac illness to heal faster from the trauma of a heart attack or ongoing disease.

In my work with cardiac patients and their families, the focus is often to improve mutual understanding and support during a difficult experience, transition, or recovery.  Sometimes, couples withdraw emotionally from each during when they need one another the most.  Challenging times can help couples strengthen and deepen their relationship or the stress and strain can cause alienation - the work we do can help you grow closer.
